Good Molecules – The Good AND The Bad

Good Molecules Skincare Routine

So let’s talk about Good Molecules! This is another brand that seems to pop up often on social media. One, because it has fun, brightly colored packaging that is just totally Instagram worthy and two, it is super affordable for clean beauty skincare.

When I decide to try a brand, I think about all the products that they carry that will work for my skin and form a complete routine. I then try out the products for about two to four weeks to really get a good idea about how the products work for my skin. More often then not, I can usually tell right away if a product works well for my skin. Especially with my dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin, it can be temperamental and freak out right away with certain ingredients.

Good molecules mission is to create effective skincare that is backed by science, good for your skin and the environment, and that is affordable. I tried eight products from their collection, so let’s dive into what I used and what worked well for me and of course what didn’t. Also, I am going to put the prices (something I don’t normally do) because I want you to see how amazingly affordable this skincare line is!

Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm

What They Say:

Formulated with sea buckthorn oil, camellia oil, and shea butter, this cleansing balm melts on contact with skin to dissolve makeup, dirt, environmental pollutants, and other impurities. Instant Cleansing Balm rinses away with just water, leaving skin comfortably clean—not tight, dry, or stripped.

My Review:

OK, I know a lot of people in the clean beauty world (and even the non-clean beauty world) shy away from fragrance and scents in their products. AND…I’m pretty picky when it comes to clean beauty skincare and the ingredients in my products, but scent is something that I don’t mind. Especially if it comes from essential oils which is my preferred method. Yes, yes, essential oils can be irritating for some skin types, but not for me.

I bring up scent because this has none. Which, if you are a fragrance free type of gal or guy, you will love this. However, skincare for me is a total sensorial experience. I want luxurious textures with uplifting and relaxing aromas. I take time applying my skincare and make it a whole self care experience and I think scent really adds to that. So I was disappointed that this was just completely devoid of any aroma.

In addition to that, I just didn’t fall in love. The texture is very waxy and feels like you are putting straight up coconut oil on your skin, but not as oily, more waxy. It left a waxy feeling on my skin that wouldn’t go away, even if I double cleansed. While it is only $15.00 I do think there are better cleansing balms and oils on the market so I would skip this.

Good Molecules Rosewater Daily Cleansing Gel

What They Say:

Meet your new daily cleanser for comfortably clean skin. Infused with antioxidant-rich rosewater, this pH-balanced gel face wash soothes and balances all skin types. Good Molecules Rosewater Daily Cleansing Gel gently purifies skin of dirt, oil, and makeup without disrupting its natural moisture balance.

My Review:

Being that I have sensitive skin, pretty much anything with rose works well for me, so I was excited to try this. However, being that I am also dry, most foaming gel and cream cleansers don’t work well for me. So I took a risk and purchased this. Again the price and size you get is amazing. This is $12.00 for a 4 ounce cleanser.

Sadly, this didn’t work out for me. While I do feel it cleansed well, especially after the cleansing balm was such a disaster, but this was so drying. It really dried out my skin and left it feeling tight and in need of some serious moisture. I need to give up looking for a non-drying gel or cream cleanser and stick to my oils, balms, and milks.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner

What They Say:

Promote bright, even skin and less visible pores with this alcohol-free toner from Good Molecules. Niacinamide Brightening Toner is formulated with a soothing blend of brightening ingredients that work to reduce the appearance of dullness, uneven skin tone, and enlarged pores.

My Review:

Niacinamide seems be the new CBD, it is everywhere right now. This ingredient is definitely having a moment as it seems every skincare brand is a launching a product with this ingredient in it. Niacinamide is specially supposed to help refining skin texture, mainly preventing breakouts and minimizing pores.

I was skeptical about this tone but decided to give it a go because they don’t really have a lot of other options. Plus for $14.00 this bottle is HUGE! However, it burned the eff out of my skin, immediately on contact, and my skin was red, raw, dried out, inflamed, and painful. My eczema was then flared up and it took days for my skin to recover.

I’m not sure that Niacinamide is a good ingredient for my skin. I think if you are more oily to combination, this will work well for you. But if you are more towards the drier side, I would stay away.

Good Molecules Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel

What They Say:

Revitalize and energize tired, puffy eyes with this soothing eye gel from Good Molecules. Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel is rich in yerba mate extract, a natural source of antioxidants and polyphenols that fight oxidative damage for brighter, more radiant skin.

My Review:

Finally, something I LOVED from the line. This eye cream is absolutely amazing and at only $6 a tube, it is my new favorite eye product. It last forever too, I’m only half way through the tube.

This helps to reduce the tired look of puffy eyes and dark circles. It brightens, smoothes, and makes eyes look more awake. This is one of the best eye products I have ever used and for the price, I will be keeping this around for a long time.

Good Molecules Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches

What They Say:

Get a bright, wide-awake look—no matter how much sleep you got the night before—with Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches from Good Molecules. These caffeine-infused hydrogel masks work to brighten, hydrate, and reduce puffiness around the eyes in just 10 minutes. They’re the perfect quick pick-me-up for puffy, tired-looking eyes.

My Review:

I love eye patches, they are great when you didn’t sleep well but need to look like you had a perfect 8 hours of sleep. I love the benefits of these and they way my eyes looked after using, plus $18.00 is amazing for these eye patches. My eyes looked brighter, smoother, and any puffiness is reduced.

My only complaint is the material these are made of that. The eye patches with that silicone like material always just slide around on my face. I tend to put eye patches on when I’m getting ready and then do other things like get dressed and make my lunch. However, this slide all the way down my face as soon as I started moving. I need help for my eyes, not my cheeks y’all. So if you have the time to lie down and be still for 10 minutes, then these are perfect.

These come in second place behind the Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Eye Masks which, while pricier, work amazingly well and stay put, allowing me to get on with my morning routine uninterrupted.

Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum

What They Say:

Replenish your skin’s moisture content with Hyaluronic Acid Serum from Good Molecules. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, this water-light serum draws moisture to the skin for long-lasting hydration. With just one use, skin appears smooth, supple, and well-hydrated.

My Review:

Hyaluronic Acid is the one thing that all of our skin can agree on. It works well for every skintype. The standout here is that it is only $6 for a 1 ounce bottle! That is incredible! However, it also works really well too. I defintely felt that this helped my skin to be not so dry. The texture is lovely, it absorbs well, and works well with other serums like Vitamin C on top of it.

This is going to be my go to for Hyaluronic Acid now.

What They Say:

Smooth, hydrate, and prep your skin for makeup with Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer from Good Molecules. Formulated with macadamia seed oil, shea butter, and a naturally derived silicone alternative, this lightweight daily moisturizer works to strengthen, condition, and protect skin from environmental stress—all while creating a smooth, plumped-up canvas for flawless makeup application.

My Review:

Oddly, Good Molecules only carries one moisturizer and this is it. While $14.00 is an unbeatable price for a cleanser, and I love that it comes in a pump, this just didn’t do it for me. The texture was nice but it just wasn’t’ enough hydration for me. Even when I added a few drops of the next product, it wasn’t moisturizing enough for me. Not even as a day lotion! I still feel my skin needed something richer.

Good Molecules Ultra-Hydrating Facial Oil

What They Say:

Hydrate, nourish, and protect your skin with Ultra-Hydrating Facial Oil from Good Molecules. Formulated for all skin types, this lightweight blend of camellia oil and sea buckthorn oil relieves dryness and dehydration, leaving you with a smooth, dewy glow.

My Review:

My skin loves facial oils and they seem to be the only thing that really saves my skin. As far as facial oils go, this is amazing. A little bit of this goes a long way and at $10.00 it is a steal. While the bottle looks teeny tiny, you don’t need a lot. In fact, I have been using this often and barely made a dent in my bottle.

I add a drop or two to boost the hydration and nourishing power of my moisturizers during the day adn then at night I apply a dropper full over my night cream and massage this in. It feels so good on the skin and has left my skin glowing.

Final Thoughts

While a few products worked well for me, I don’t think Good Molecules is a brand that is really geared for my skin. Looking at their product line up and trying out these eight products, I really think they gear more towards a younger crowd with oily, normal, or combo skin.

I really love the oil, the hyaluroinc acid, and the eye gel and will probably keep using those as they work well for my dry, sensitive skin and are extremely affordable. However, as a whole, the line is just ont really meant for my skin.
